The Mooch

I had a German Shepherd, named Mooch, that taught me exactly what to bark at a growling dog to scare it off. And it works –

True story: My then very young daughter and I were visiting a friend at her apartment.  We were out for a walk (little ones get antsy) when we met up with a snarling little dog that was blocking our way on the sidewalk.  My daughter hid behind me in fear of the growling beast.  I let loose with one good loud bark and the little dog ran off – tail between its legs and whimpering.  I have no idea what I was saying to the dog, but it kept a safe distance from us while we continued our walk.

Mooch was a sweet dog, but he was big and wickedly playful. He trained the mailman to share his sandwich and loved to trap people in their own cars.

Big bold dog had one weakness – thunderstorms. Then he could be found hiding under a bed whimpering!
