Recent events in Iran

Iran held a Presidential election recently that led to a largely vocal uprising by citizens who felt robbed of their democratic rights.  The rapid announcement of a winner, when not enough time had elapsed to complete the vote count, aroused suspicions of a rigged election.  Those individuals who had voted for the more progressive candidate quickly organised to protest and to inform the rest of the world of the events in their country.

In addition to the usual outcry “see what they have done”, they asked for some show of support for their cause.  And for the second time in its history, the face of twitter has changed in response.  Turning ones avatar green is a seemingly empty gesture.  It does little but express sympathy for a just cause.  But perhaps it also will let the Iranian people know that the world cares.  I anxiously await the results of the protest and hope that they will be positive in the long run.
