In the future, fashion will not have changed much from where it is today. If it were up to me, these are the changes I would make.
Men would no longer wear ties of any kind. They are a vestige of a bygone era. They are no longer necessary items. In many cases they are downright dangerous, ofttimes embarrassing and always a nuisance. No man appears comfortable wearing a noose around his neck.
Tight pants and low-riders would be abolished. No one looks good in them or feels comfortable when they worry about them slipping down the hips or cutting off circulation to the legs. All pants would come up to the waist and the legs would allow for greater freedom of movement.
Exercise clothing would be sized for the people who need them most and not for the people who look really good in them. I would have one less excuse for avoiding the gym; “I can’t go. I’ve nothing to wear and they won’t let me workout naked.”
Handbags would be both useful and uni-sex. Gone will be the useless, shapeless, over-decorated and over-priced. Form will follow function with accessories like handbags and belts. Belts will come measured in inches, some even made to measure. Handbags will have enough room for the necessities and then some, but gone will be the days of too much bag and too little handle.
Women will be able to order clothes made to fit direct from the manufacturer over the internet. Gone will be the days of compromising on size by settling for a too large waistband just so the hips will fit. For women who order dresses from eShakti.com, the future is now. For the manufacturers of blue jeans who tried this 10-20 years ago, now is the time to dust off the old website and try again.
Ah, well. I can dream…
