It was a snow day. The children, excited about staying home to play, rushed outside as soon as their mittens were on. A little ball of white fur bounded out the door after them.
The snow was not very deep, but more was falling gently from the sky. The kitten watched the snow from the safety of the porch and batted a paw at an occasional snowflake.
The little kitten gingerly made her way out into the yard where the children were playing. The children threw snowballs at each other. They built and toppled several snowmen. The kitten watched them play and dodged the occasional snowball thrown in its direction.
She didn’t notice the snow sticking to her fur as she bounded and plowed through the fluffy snow. She crouched down and lay in wait for one of the children to come close to her.
Suddenly the snow moved and a little boy shrieked. Blue eyes blinked at him as the ball of snow bounced toward him. He fell backward into a sitting position and stretched out his arms to welcome the little bundle of frozen fur.
“Mommy, come quick!” he shouted at the house.
“What is it?”, a woman’s voice responded.
“It’s Snowball!” he chimed back. “She’s a real snowball now!”
