Recently, a fan of the Twilight book series wrote a letter to Universal accusing them of “ripping off” Stephanie Meyer with their remake of “The Wolfman”. It was clearly a case of the young woman failing to make a fact check before spouting off.
I too have started to write blogs expressing pride or disgust before doing some fact checking. I have also deleted those aborted efforts after discovering that my knee-jerk reaction was far off the mark. It is too easy to make assumptions these days and just as easy to check the facts.
If the Twilight fan had bothered to google “The Wolfman”, she would have discovered that the movie was a remake of an older movie that existed well before Stephanie Meyer was born.
I can’t say why she failed to check her facts before sending the letter to Universal, but she could certainly have saved herself a great deal of embarrassment and insult if she had taken the time.
I know that I have!
