It was a warm Spring day. The sun was shining brightly. The lilacs were in bloom. The bush roses were wafting their sweet scent out to the bees. And the wind was blowing.
The tree branches swayed wildly to and fro, shaking anything loose that had settled in them. The blue jay had gone out to find food and was returning to its nest. It was almost home when a strong gust of wind blew it back out of the tree.
It flapped its wings hard against the wind gust. It slowly drifted away from the tree branches, almost toppling over in flight. Gathering its strength, the brave blue jay made a last-minute dive towards the pine tree and finally settled on a branch, where it waited for the wind to ease up.
